Habitat Mapping

Understanding Horsham Town’s wildlife requires that we understand the many habitats that the Town has to offer. In 2023 Nigel Langridge ran a number of workshops to explain how to map habitats in your local patch.

Nigel went on to survey much of Horsham Town and from these surveys constructed the Horsham Town Wildways.

Green Space SWOT

To frame our way forward we worked with many local green space groups to create an overall Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis for Horsham Town green space as a whole.

This provided vital information that has informed and directed our work to date and that will be a valuable checkpoint to return to in future.

Tree Survey

Earles Meadow pedunculate oak in winter

Nigel Langridge created course materials and ran several courses to train volunteers in recording trees and determining their ages so they can be added to the Woodland Trust national tree inventory.

The tree surveys were particularly successful on Rookwood Golf Course where the tree inventory was previously close to zero and now stands at over 116!
